Neshuya is a district in the province of Padre Abad, in Ucayali. Actors of the district's main agricultural activities in cocoa and palm, together with the local authority and civil society, have been working on a shared vision and action plan to guarantee a responsible supply zone with a low risk of deforestation.
On May 30, in Ucayali, the workshop ".Participatory construction of a Shared Vision and Action Plan for jurisdictional sustainability from agricultural value chains in Neshuya". which aimed to jointly build a shared vision, an action plan (roadmap) for sustainability and the identification of financing options. In this context, the District Municipality of Neshuya, together with Earthworm Foundation, Earth Innovation Institute, Alianza Bioversity International and CIAT (ABC), Tropical Forest Alliance and Solidaridad promote this space to achieve a sustainable district from low-emission, inclusive and competitive agricultural value chains, with key actions tailored to the reality of the district.
Why did the Neshuya Jurisdictional Initiative arise?
In a context of global regulatory changes (e.g. the EUDR), complementary approaches to supply chain sustainability processes are required, promoting the ability of jurisdictions to implement low-emission development strategies, positioning themselves as low socio-environmental risk zones, with the capacity for verification in robust monitoring systems and with long-term public-private governance.
The Neshuya Jurisdictional Initiative design event was led by the Neshuya District Municipality and producer organizations.
The workshop emphasized the need for public-private governance to guide the entire implementation process, as well as the need for a landscape performance monitoring instrument.
The action plan will address four areas of low-emission development:
This workshop was an activity supported in part by the Climate-Landscape Project funded by @Nestlé, and Amazonía Connect, an initiative of @USAID, #Nestlé, #AmazoniaConnect #AREP #CeroDeforestation #P5TELDRBE #Neshuya
