On Tuesday, August 9, the Cacao Forests and Diversity Agreement, within the framework of the Coalition for Sustainable Production, held the Workshop for the exchange of experiences in monitoring and traceability of non-deforestation in the city of Lima. It was attended by representatives of the private sector, public sector, academia and civil society, linked to the cocoa chain.
The presentations made and the participation of the attendees contributed to achieving the objectives of the meeting. The objectives were to learn about experiences in farm-level monitoring and traceability of production chains, their progress and challenges; identify solutions to the challenges identified and establish collaboration mechanisms; identify monitoring and traceability tools and feasibility. This activity helps Peruvian cocoa value chain stakeholders to be better prepared to face global regulations on deforestation, which must be present in the import processes of value chains, such as those of the European Union, and to strengthen the competitiveness of the sector.

- Today, around 40 members from the private sector, public sector, civil society and academia are part of the coalition.
Cocoa, Forest and Diversity Agreement
- It is a collective action agreement between private organizations, government and civil society that promotes:
- The differentiation of Peruvian cocoa based on quality, diversity of origin attributes and its restorative and deforestation-free potential.

- Today, 21 actors from the private sector, public sector, civil society and academia are part of the Agreement.

The initiative seeks to position and reinforce Peru's differentiation as an exporter of quality cocoa, with verified attributes of origin and free of deforestation by 2025.
The workshop is part of priority 2 of the action plan "Identify and test tools for monitoring and traceability of deforestation-free cocoa". Among the deliverables of this priority are:
- The elaboration of a guide of tool characteristics and sweep of existing tools, both in monitoring and traceability.
- To have a guide for companies to move forward with their commitments in the Agreement.
- Piloting and selection of monitoring and traceability tools.
The workshop was led by the leaders or champions of the Priority 2 working group of the action plan, the Association of Exporters ADEX, Tropical Forest Alliance TFA y Solidarity, Cacao Peru Alliance y Earth Innovation Institute.
